Blackwood Apartment Tenants Evacuated After Car Crashes Through Wall

A woman drives a Cadillac into a building at Autumn Ridge Apartments Tuesday morning.

Tenants at Autumn Ridge Apartments were evacauted Tuesday morning after a car crashed into it, creating a large hole in the structure's brick exterior and damage to an unoccupied apartment.

Gloucester Township Police responded to the crash scene at 9:13 a.m. They found a 2007 Cadillac had breached the brick wall at Autumn Ridge's building "O" and crashed through interior walls in an unoccupied apartment that was undergoing renovations, Lt. Bob Stavola said.

No one was injured in the crash.

Police officers and Blackwood Fire Co. firefighters evacuated tenants from their apartments after the crash.

The township building inspector later cleared the building for occupancy, police said, and all tenants returned to their homes.

The uninjured driver, Ruth Marquez, of Autumn Ridge Apartments, was issued a summons for careless driving.

The woman could have killed someone and she gets a summons for careless driving! She should have been arrested. It wasn't raining. There was no ice. The sky was bright and clear. There's even a hill leading up to the building! She should have had the book thrown at her for endangering other peoples lives!

It does make one wonder about what was going on and how that happened.

Sorry Rita, I do understand your concern for what could have happened but you cannot and should not arrest people for what may have happened if it did not happen. The building was cleared for those evacuated, the affected apartment was vacant, nobody was injured. It is an insurance issue. Dumb I agree and careless. That was what she deserved and what she got.
