On Nov. 15, 2012 a Deptford police officer responded to Gordon’s Jewelers at Deptford Mall for a theft complaint. Loss prevention officers and store managers suspected a store employee of removing a display case and “gold box” items without authorization. Suspicions were raised when a gold purchaser contacted Gordon's Jewelers asking for Nemoto, a store employee. The caller said Nemoto had previously sold gold to her business. A store inventory check determined 26 items valued at a total of $19,332 were missing. The following day, Nemoto was observed entering a display case when no customers were present. A subsequent audit determined six jewelry pieces in the case had been replaced with costume jewelry. A criminal complaint was signed against Nemoto on Nov. 20, 2012.
