Boyfriend Charged in West Deptford Woman's Murder

Rocco Carsillo was charged with the murder of Margaret Ann DePietro late Thursday evening. Their relationship had a history of domestic violence.

The boyfriend of a 59-year-old Thorofare woman has been arrested and charged in connection her murder in their Thorofare home, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday morning.

Rocco L. Carsillo, 55, of West Deptford, was charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and second-degree certain persons not to have weapons in connection with the murder of Margaret Ann DePietro. The two lived in the same home on Highbridge Lane, officials said.

Carsillo and DePietro had a relationship that dated back to 2003. Their relationship was filled with a history of domestic violence, police said. DePietro had a temporary restraining order placed on Carsillo in November. That restraining order was dismissed on Nov. 21, 2013, when neither party appeared in family court in Woodbury.

A family member and a friend discovered DePietro's body at her home Wednesday night around 11 p.m. after she didn't answer her phone earlier in the day. An autopsy conducted Thursday morning determined she died of multiple stab wounds.

Carsillo, who formerly resided on Crown Point Road in Thorofare, is a convicted felon, police said. He was initially arrested on Thursday in Winslow Township on active warrants. He was charged late Thursday evening, and is being held in default of $500,000 bail.

“This quick arrest would not have been possible without the fine work of the various units of the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office along with the West Deptford Police Department,” Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton said in a prepared statement.
