Camden Drug Set Manager Sentenced to Nine Years in State Prison

Tyree Custis, 34, was previously found guilty of possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS within 1,000 feet of a school zone and two counts of conspiracy.

A Camden man who was the manager of a drug set at 28th and Washington streets was sentenced to nine years in state prison, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo announced on Friday.

Tyree Custis, 34, was previously found guilty of possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS within 1,000 feet of a school zone and two counts of conspiracy.

During the trial Assistant Prosecutor Lee Brownstein presented evidence that Custis was the manager of a drug set at 28th and Washington streets in Camden.

On March 30, 2012, Custis was observed in an alley near that intersection accepting $1,542 in cash from another man, who pulled the bills out of his pockets and shoes.

Brownstein presented evidence this money was the proceeds from drug transactions. A stash of drugs was found behind the 2800 building of the Washington Street Apartments after police arrested Custis.

A warrant for Custis was issued after his conviction and he was a fugitive until arrested in Camden on Nov. 15, 2013.
