Camden Man Charged With Murder in Case of Human Remains Found on I-676

A Camden man has been charged with murder in connection with the discovery of human remains found off Interstate 676 in 2013, Camden County Prosecutor Warren Faulk and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson announced on Monday.

Lashaun Brown-Bunch, 21, was charged with murder in the death of Adrian Rivera. He was ordered held on $1 million bail in an arraignment Monday afternoon.

Brown-Bunch’s arrest is the culmination of nearly six months of investigation that began when Rivera’s remains were found in a red recycling receptacle near mile marker 1.6 of I-676.

The remains were significantly decayed, and there were no identifying materials on the victim. Authorities were also unable to determine the cause of death.

Rivera, a 23-year-old Camden man, had been reported missing by his family on Oct. 15, 2013. Some physical evidence led authorities to believe that Rivera was the victim, but they were unable to confirm.

Detectives didn't receive results of the DNA test until May 17, confirming Rivera as the victim. Two days later, the death was ruled a homicide.

Over the previous five months detectives with the Prosecutor’s Office and Camden County Police had gathered evidence that pointed to several persons of interest in the death.

Once the death was confirmed to be a homicide, police were able to move forward with charges against persons of interest.

In August of 2013, Rivera allegedly stole $2,000 worth of narcotics he had been responsible for selling. The alleged murder appears to be retaliation for that incident.

Brown-Bunch allegedly killed Rivera at an abandoned home on the 1700 block of Norris Street where Rivera had been living some time in August of 2013.

Evidence gathered at the home included blood in a second story bedroom, and a witness told investigators he saw Brown-Bunch hacking at Rivera with a sharp object while the victim was also attacked by a pit bull.

Shawn Mosley, 34, of Camden, allegedly drove Rivera's remains to the receptacle and left them there. He was charged with hindering apprehension and desecration of human remains on May 19.

Brown-Bunch was arrested on Friday.

An investigation into this death is ongoing and charges against other individuals are possible.
