Camden Teen Pleads Guilty to Murder of Riverside Man

Hasan Dallas faces 19 years in prison. He was 15 at the time of the murder.

A teenager from Camden pleaded guilty to the murder of a Riverside man in 2012, Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk announced Thursday afternoon.

Hasan Dallas, 17, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter after being waived from juvenile court to adult court. He was 15 at the time of the murder, and is expected to be sentenced to 19 years in state prison. He would have to serve 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Dallas admitted to shooting Michael Haller, 40, on the 600 block of Elm Street in Camden on Oct. 12, 2012.

He said he approached Haller as Haller rode his bike on Vine Street and walked with him to the site of the shooting. He then went into a nearby home to retrieve a gun in an attempt to rob Haller.

Dallas said he shot Haller. He didn't obtain any cash.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 11.

So Hasan Dallas who is now 17, serves 85% of a 19 year sentence which is 16 years and 1 month (give or take a couple of days) and gets released back into society at age 33. And this is for deliberately getting a gun and killing someone in the course of premeditated robbery in which he got no money? Maybe I should have used the terminology “unleashed on society” …I wonder what kind of upstanding citizen Hasan will make? Certainly the death penalty would deter Hasan from killing again, which at this point anyone would have to admit is a very real possibility, and it would relieve the taxpayers from burden of having to provide Hasan with items (continued education, 3 meals a day etc.) that many of them struggle to provide for their own families, on a daily basis.
