Police officers found a four-door 2003 Mitsubishi car had crashed into a tree on its passenger side. The vehicle was occupied only by the driver, who appeared to be seriously injured and had to be extricated from the car by Chews Landing firefighters.

The driver was initially taken to Kennedy University Hospital-Stratford before being transferred to the trauma center at Cooper University Hospital, in Camden, according to Gloucester Township Police Deputy Chief David Harkins.

It is believed the rainy weather and wet roads contributed to the crash, Harkins said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Gloucester Township Police Department's Serious Crash Investigation Team. Lower Landing Road was closed between Landing Road and Lakeview Drive for several hours as the accident scene was cleared and the accident probed.
