Cigarette Bandit Charged with Hitting 3 Heritage's Stores for Stolen Smokes

The great tobacco bandit has been captured, Gloucester Township Police announced.

An Oaklyn man police accuse of going on a smash-and-grab spree at two local Heritage’s Dairy Stores was identified Saturday morning. Conveniently for , he was already in jail.

The $3,903 in cigarettes and cigars that Oaklyn’s Sharick A. Jenkins, 25, allegedly stole cost him $100,000 in bail on charges that he burglarized two Gloucester Township Heritage’s, plus a Woodbury store.

Police were investigating the thefts after two smash-and-grabs on July 31. In both cases, Jenkins used a rock to knock out the window of the Heritage’s store and stole cigarettes and cigars, police said. The Heritage’s are on Williamstown Road in Sicklerville and the Black Horse Pike in Blackwood.

Jenkins’ alleged take was $3,287 worth of various brands of cigarettes—although police report he favored Newports—and $616 worth of miscellaneous cigars.

He faces charges for a similar crime at a Woodbury Heritage’s store on Aug. 8. Jenkins is charged with another Oaklyn man for stealing more than $3,500 in cigarettes in that incident.

In the Gloucester Township cases, Jenkins was charged with two counts of burglary, theft and criminal mischief. Already being held at Gloucester County Jail, Jenkins’ combined bail was set at $100,000 with an option to pay 10 percent.

The 25-year-old has a criminal history, according to state records. He was jailed for 134 days for simple assault in 2008, and for 270 days plus two years probation in 2011 for narcotics charges. earlier this summer after allegedly peering into vehicles and subsequently resisting arrest.
