Coast Guard Searching for Missing Boater in Delaware River

A man went missing around 1 p.m. on Friday.

The Coast Guard, state and local agencies are searching the Delaware River for a missing boater.

The Coast Guard received a report from local dispatch of an unmanned personal watercraft going in circles on the Delaware River near Philadelphia at approximately 1 p.m. on Friday.

A witness reported seeing a man ejected from the personal watercraft. The man attempted to swim back to the boat, but went under and was not seen resurfacing. He wasn't wearing a life jacket, according to the witness.

A search effort is being led by Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia. New Jersey State Police personnel are assisting with the investigation. Numerous surface assets from federal, state and local government agencies are involved in the rescue effort, with helicopter crews also searching.
