Collingswood Houseguest Arrested for Jewelry Theft

Police said a Blackwood man mistook his friend's hospitality for an open-drawer policy, allegedly stealing and pawning jewelry from a home in which he was a guest.

A Collingswood resident who opened her home to a guest over the holidays allegedly discovered that he helped himself to more than a spare room.

On December 20, police said a Grant Avenue homeowner reported that numerous pieces of jewelry had gone missing from her house.

The woman had invited two friends to stay with her, and while she was away for a period of time, they allowed a third person—Jamie A. House, 30, of Blackwood—to stay there as well, police said.

House denied having any knowledge of the theft, but detectives found receipts for jewelry that matched the descriptions of the missing items at a pawn shop in Haddon Heights.

When confronted with the evidence, police said House confessed to taking the jewelry from the residence.

He was charged with third-degree theft and was remanded to the Camden County correctional facility.
