Fire District Elections Coming Feb. 18

Fire elections will be held across the state, including Gloucester Township's six districts, in less than three weeks.

Only two of the six fire districts in Gloucester Township have contested races this year.

The commission races and tax levies to be voted on in Gloucester Township's fire districts are summarized below.

Polls will be open at the six district's station houses from 2 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 18.

In District 1, incumbents Gary Emmett and John Atkinson are running unopposed for two three-year terms on the Glendora Board of Fire Commissioners.

District 1 voters are being asked to approve a tax levy of $286,400 to support a budget of $332,685 for the all-volunteer station.

In District 2, there are three people seeking two three-year terms on the Chews Landing Board of Fire Commissioners. They are incumbents George Genzel and Ray Evans and challenger James Moore.

District 2 voters are being asked to approve a $1,632,130 tax levy to support a $1,815,630 budget.

In District 3, incumbent Donald Stires is running unopposed for a three-year term on the Blenheim Board of Fire Commissioners.

District 3 voters are being asked to approve a tax levy of $366,021 to support a spending plan of $427,910 for the all-volunteer company.

In District 4, there are four people seeking two seats on the Blackwood Board of Fire Commissioners. Incumbents Joe Kaighn and Warren Stout are facing challengers Steve Marsden and Peter Simone.

District 4 voters are being asked to approve a tax levy of $1,103,704 to support a budget of $1,618,832.

In District 5, two incumbents are running unopposed for two full, three-year terms on the Lambs Terrace Board of Fire Commissioners. They are Joseph DeRosa and Barry Engelbert.

District 5 voters are being asked to approve a tax levy of $1,374,323 to support a budget of $1,405,074.

In District 6, newcomers George Flinn and William C. Loftus are running unopposed for two three-year terms on the Erial Board of Fire Commissioners.

District 6 voters are being asked to approve a tax levy of $1,264,383 to support a $1,375,709 budget.
