Former Erial Church Organist From Sicklerville Charged With Child Sexual Assault

Joseph Cuthbert was charged with sexually assaulting five juvenile males in 30 years.

An organist at the Erial Community Church in the Erial section of Gloucester Township has been charged with the sexual assault of five juvenile males over 30 years, Gloucester Township Police announced Thursday morning.

Joseph Cuthbert, 71, of Sicklerville, was initially accused of sexually assaulting a boy beginning in September of 2013. The victim filed the charges with Winslow Township Police.

The Winslow Township Criminal Investigation Division discovered four additional victims over the course of their investigation. They said they assaults took place over the course of 30 years.

Cuthbert came into contact with the juveniles while serving as an organist for several southern New Jersey churches, most recently the Erial Community Church.

Cuthbert was arrested without incident on Feb. 16. He was charged with five counts of aggravated sexual assault, five counts criminal sexual contact and five counts endangering the welfare of a child.

He was remanded to Camden County Jail at $250,000 cash bail.
