Gloucester Township Man Charged with Selling Heroin

Police say the drugs and one of three guns recovered were within the reach of a 6 year old.

Gloucester Township police have charged a 38-year-old township man with selling "significant quantities of heroin."

Authorities say Darren Byrd was allegedly selling drugs out of his home in the 600 block of Pasadena Drive in the Catalina Hills section of the township. A two-month investigation led to his arrest on Thursday.

Three handguns were also recovered.

One of the guns and the heroin was within reach of a 6-year-old child who was sleeping. Byrd was charged with certain person prohibited from possessing a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child, distribution of CDS, possession of CDS, and minor’s access to a loaded firearm.

He was held on $50,000 full-cash bail.

The return of heroin as a major street drug also hit close to home recently in the Black Horse Pike Regional School District that serves Gloucester Township. A 16-year-old student at Triton High School and an 18-year-old former student died last month from heroin overdoses.
