Gloucester Township Man Indicted on Child Pornography Charges

Brian Cahill allegedly spied on and molested a girl from the time she was 13 until she was 16.

A Gloucester Township man has been indicted on charges he molested a teenage girl and took sexually explicit photos of her while she slept, Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman announced on Wednesday.

Brian Cahill, 55, was indicted on 10 counts, including:
* first degree aggravated sexual assault;
* second degree sexual assault;
* second degree impairing or debauching the morals of a child under 16;
* second degree photographing a child in prohibited sexual acts;
* second degree distribution of child pornography;
* second degree offering child pornography;
* third degree aggravated criminal sexual contact;
* third degree invasion of privacy
* fourth degree criminal sexual contact; and
* fourth degree possession of child pornography.

Cahill was one of 27 New Jerseyans from 26 different towns apprehended during Operation Watchdog in April of 2012. That sting targeted individuals who possessed and distributed child pornography, and was executed by 21 law enforcement agencies and Digital Technology Investigations Unit of the state police.

Cahill lived in Folsom in Atlantic County at the time of the arrest.

According to Hoffman, Cahill touched and penetrated the 16-year-old victim on multiple occasions while she slept. He also allegedly pulled aside her shorts and lifted up her shirt in order to take explicit photos, and allegedly placed her hand on his genitals.

Cahill allegedly began spying on her when she was 13, spying on her and taking pictures of her through her window when she was alone. He photographed her in the nude and when she was engaging in sexual conduct, Hoffman said.

“This defendant allegedly molested a teenage girl while she was completely helpless, and photographed his depraved acts for his further gratification,” Hoffman said. “We are working hard to protect children by hunting down these sexual predators on the Internet.”

He allegedly downloaded and shared about 1,000 images and 300 videos of child pornography online.

“This case clearly illustrates the connection between child pornography and further predatory behavior against children,” Division of Criminal Justice Director Elie Honig said. “We will continue to work closely with the State Police to apprehend sexual predators and prosecute them to the full extent of the law.”

First-degree crimes carry a sentence of 10 to 20 years in state prison and a fine of up to $200,000; second-degree crimes carry a sentence of five to 10 years in state prison and a fine of up to $150,000; third-degree crimes carry a sentence of three to five years in state prison and a fine of up to $15,000; and fourth-degree crimes carry a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
