Gloucester Township, Other Police Departments Use Heroin Antidote to Save Lives: Report

A new heroin antidote Camden County police departments recently began to use has already saved three lives, the Courier Post reports.

The Gloucester Township Police Department was the first to use the antidote when they saved the life of a 23-year-old man last week, according to the report.

The other two incidents took place Pine Hill and Magnolia. All three incidents occurred last week, according to the report.

Camden County police agencies began use of Naloxone/Narcan earlier this year after the Opioid Antidote and Overdose Prevention Act made it legal for police officers to start carrying the drug.

The use of the antidote is part of an ongoing campaign by local law enforcement to combat heroin use.

On Monday night, the county held a summit in which guest speaker and BMX pro Tony Hoffman spoke about his past drug abuse and offered warning signs for parents to look for.

It also is launching a billboard public service campaign.
