GTPD: Man Charged in Kidnapping, Sex Assault

A 25-year-old man formerly of Lakeview Apartments is charged with kidnapping and repeatedly physically and sexually assaulting a former friend insider her Blackwood home, according to police.

The victim contacted police at 11:46 p.m. Tuesday to report she had been sexually assaulted and robbed. She informed investigators her assailant forced her back into her Lakeview Apartments home at knifepoint as she was heading out, and proceeded to physically and sexually assault her on several occasions over the course of several hours.

Gloucester Township Police initiated an intensive manhunt for the suspect, with the assistance of Deptford Township Police and New Jersey State Police, but the 25-year-old man, identified by police as Jose Gonzalez, was able to elude a Gloucester Township K-9 unit in the dense woods and swamp along Big Timber Creek, near Route 42.

Police on Wednesday learned Gonzalez had fled to the Feather Nest Inn, located off Route 38 in Cherry Hill. Cherry Hill police officers took Gonzalez into custody and turned him over to Gloucester Township Police.

Gonzalez, whose last known address was a motel in Cherry Hill, according to police, is charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping and robbery. He is also charged with two counts of burglary and single counts of terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, aggravated assault, criminal attempt escape, and criminal mischief.

Gonzalez allegedly attempted to break out a window at Gloucester Township police station in an escape try.

His victim told police he stole money from her purse after he assaulted her upon finding she had called police for help.

Gonzalez was taken to an area hospital for medical clearance before being lodge in Camden County Jail on $400,000 bail.
