GTPD to Host National Night Out Kickoff Meeting

The meeting will be held Thursday night at the senior/community center on Chews Landing Road.

The Gloucester Township Police Department will hold its National Night Out kickoff meeting Thursday at the senior/community center at the Chews Landing Road municipal complex.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Mayor David Mayer will be there to speak to residents and to thank them for their support of police and National Night Out. Police Chief W. Harry Earle is slated to discuss new policing strategies implemented earlier this year and explain how community members play such an important role in law-enforcement efforts.

The event is open to the public and police encourage anyone to attend as involvement in National Night Out is so important to their crime-fighting effort. 

A mobile document shredder, sponsored by the La Cascata Homeowners Association, will be available for the public's use at the Gloucester Township Police Department building prior to the meeting, from 5 to 6:45 p.m.

Police encourage residents to protect your identities by bringing personal documents to be shredded and to stay for the meeting to see how you can be a part of 2011 National Night Out.

The 28th annual National Night Out will be celebrated in communities across the country on Tuesday, Aug. 2. The program aims to show community support for police and to send a clear message to criminals that their actions will not be tolerated.
