Haddonfield Man Beat Taxi Driver in Camden, Police Say

Philip Krieger also faces bias charges after using racial slurs in the attack, police said.

A Haddonfield man who beat a taxi driver in an attempted robbery was arrested in Camden early Saturday morning, Camden County Police said.

Philip Krieger, 25, who is white, used racial slurs when he refused to pay for the ride from Philadelphia to New Jersey after stopping at a Hess station ATM, police said, then attacked the driver when he pulled off the Admiral Wilson Boulevard to find a police officer.

With help from an unidentified male passenger, Krieger repeatedly punched the taxi driver in the head, knocking out one tooth and loosening another, police said.

The driver was able to find an NJ Transit officer a few blocks off the boulevard, at Marlton Avenue and Federal Street, and Krieger was arrested inside the cab.

The other passenger took off on foot, police said.

Krieger was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree bias intimidation and third-degree aggravated assault, and was lodged in the county jail in default of $250,000 bail.

The incident is still under investigation, police said, and officers are working to identify the other passenger in the taxi.
