Juvenile Charged in Foster Dad's Slaying Back in Camco

The 16-year-old boy, arrested in New York on July 12, was transported back to Camden County last week.

A teen charged with stabbing his foster father to death inside the man's Blackwood home last month is back in New Jersey following his arrest in Bronx, NY, on July 12.

The 16-year-old boy was transported back to Camden County from New York, where he was being held since his arrest, following extradition on Friday, according to Jason Laughlin, spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

The teen did not make an appearance at his detention hearing inside Judge Charles W. Dortch's courtroom at Camden County Hall of Justice this afternoon. He will remain held in Camden County's juvenile detention facility.

Patch was denied access to this afternoon's proceeding due to the accused murderer's juvenile status.

The 16-year-old is accused of stabbing 69-year-old Theotis Butts to death during a burglary to Butts' home at 66 Hemlock Dr., in the sleepy Timber Cove subdivision, on July 11. Butts' brother-in-law made the grisly discovery around 9:40 p.m. that night.

Authorities allege the teen stabbed Butts to death before fleeing with items he stole from the home, where he reportedly last lived for about nine months prior to the slaying.

In the wake of the teen's arrest in connection with Butts' stabbing death, Gloucester Township Police announced the boy has also been charged in connection with a carjacking at Lakeview Apartments on May 29.

Several sources have told Patch prosecutors will seek to try the teen as an adult.
