Lockout at Lilley School Lifted

School officials reported loud bangs they believed may have been gunshots, but police discovered they were coming from a nearby construction site.

Gloucester Township Police have determined that children at James W. Lilley Elementary School were not in any danger after the school was placed in a lockout Wednesday afternoon.

The school, located at 1275 Williamstown Road, was placed under a lockout at 1:11 p.m. following reports of loud bangs school officials believed may be gunshots in the distance.

A lockout is a procedure that secures the building perimeter from an external threat, while normal school activities occur inside the school.

Police determined that the loud bangs were coming from a nearby construction site, and the lockout was lifted after about 20 minutes.

The investigation is ongoing.
