UPDATE: Man Charged with Murder of Camden County Marine in Custody

Darrell Crone is accused of fatally shooting Timothy Loper Jr. after a Camden bar fight.

A 31-year-old Camden man who has been formally charged with the murder of an Afghan war veteran has turned himself in.

Darrell Crone, 31, of the 1200 block of Park Boulevard in Camden, turned himself in at the Camden County Police Department Police Administration Building about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported.

He is charged with murder for the shooting death of Timothy Loper Jr., 27, of Pine Hill, a veteran who gave his life stateside on Sunday morning as he was shot attempting to break up a bar fight in the city.

It is alleged that Crone was involved in an altercation outside 20 Horse Tavern at the intersection of 2nd and Spruce streets in Camden about 2:45 a.m. Sunday.

He is accused of pulling a gun and firing it during the altercation. Loper, who served two tours in Afghanistan, was struck and killed when the weapon was fired.

An arraignment is expected to be held tomorrow.
