Millbridge Fire Displaces Three Families

Three residents and two firefighters were treated for minor injuries.

Three families were displaced by a fire at Millbridge Gardens Apartments Sunday afternoon.

Three Millbridge residents and two firefighters sustained minor injuries in the blaze, according to police.

The fire was reported at around 2:30 p.m., police said Sunday night. Two apartments were "severely damaged," police said.

When police, fire and emergency-medical units arrived to Millbridge's 600 building, heavy smoke was showing from a second-floor apartment, according to Gloucester Township Police Lt. Ed Bryant. All residents had already evacuated the building by the time public-safety units arrived.

Three Millbridge residents were treated for smoke inhalation and two firefighters for minor burns, according to Bryant, who did not identify the victims. One firefighter was treated at the scene, while the other and the three residents were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

All who were hospitalized were released by the time police disseminated a press release about the blaze shortly before 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Camden County and Chews Landing Fire Department fire marshal's offices.

The three families displaced by the fire are being aided by the Camden County chapter of the American Red Cross, police said.

In addition to Chews Landing Fire Department, firefighters from Blackwood, Glendora, Runnemede and Pine Hill also responded for the fire. Gloucester Township EMS personnel also responded.
