The fire on Tuesday forced residents from four apartments.

A mid-afternoon fire forced residents from four units at the Millbridge Gardens apartment complex on Tuesday.

The fire was reported around 1:15 p.m. as a small blaze on the second-floor porch of an apartment in the complex's 600 section, according to police.

Arriving police officers found heavy fire showing from the rear of the apartment, and evacuated the other 11 units in the apartment building.

Four of the twelve apartments in the building were deemed uninhabitable due to fire, smoke or water damage. Millbridge Gardens management was in the process of making living arrangements for the displaced residents Tuesday evening.

The cause of this fire remained under investigation by the Chews Landing and Camden County Fire Marshal's Office as of the issuing of the press release at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday.

This is the second significant fire to occur at Millbridge Gardens since early December.

A Dec. 11 fire has been blamed on careless smoking.
