National Night Out Kickoff Meeting Scheduled for May 28

Residents can learn how to hold neighborhood events, and Chief Harry Earle will discuss new initiatives implemented over the last year at the meeting.

The Gloucester Township Police Department holds its National Night Out kickoff meeting May 28 at the Gloucester Township Senior Center at the Municipal Complex, 7 p.m.

At the meeting, Gloucester Township Police Chief Harry Earle will discuss new policing strategies implemented throughout the year.

Members of the public interested in holding a National Night Out Event in their neighborhood are invited to attend.

This year's National Night Out is scheduled for Aug. 5. Neighbors, family, and friends will be gathering at their homes, on their streets, and at their local community centers in recognition of their support of the community.

National Night Out helps strengthen community support and the partnership between the police department and the neighborhood.

"Residents and communities that participate in National Night Out send a message that they are organized and not willing to stand for criminal activity occurring in their neighborhood," Gloucester Township Police said in a statement issued Wednesday morning.

A neighborhood's National Night Out Event can consist of just two neighbors meeting on their front lawns, an organized block party of several neighbors occurring on a closed street, or a full neighborhood event at a local community center.

"Whether it is just a few neighbors meeting in front of their homes or an entire community coming together, the outcome of a stronger community is the same," police said.
