No Injuries in Doe Drive Fire

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which caused extensive damage to a Deer Park home.

No one was injured in a Doe Drive house fire this afternoon.

The fire at 12 Doe Dr., in the Deer Park development, was reported at about 12:30 p.m. It was declared under control less than a half-hour later.

Investigators believe the fire was sparked as the result of an electrical problem with equipment attached to the property's swimming pool, Gloucester Township Police Lt. Mike Harkins said at the scene.

The fire intensified when it reached a patch of dry leaves, then moved up the side of the house all the way to the attic.

The home's residents were inside the house when the fire broke out, Harkins said. Adult occupants smelled smoke and ordered their children out of the home, which sustained extensive damage in the blaze.

The worst of the damage appeared to be contained to the rear of the home, particularly to the second story and attic.

Firefighters from the township's Blackwood, Chews Landing, Erial and Lambs Terrace stations were assisted at the scene by several area fire stations, including from Clementon, Lindenwold and Pine Hill, as well as the Camden County Fire Marshal.

The Doe Drive home has a Blackwood mailing address, but falls in the Erial fire district.
