UPDATE: Investigation Continues Into Galloway Crash That Killed Man, Son

An investigation continues into a Garden State Parkway crash that killed a father and son Saturday near Exit 44 in Galloway, police said.

James Friedrich, 53, and his 22-year-old son, Justin were identified as the victims in the accident, according to State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman .

Grossman said troopers from the Bass River barracks responded to a report at 2:35 a.m. of a vehicle off the roadway. Upon arrival, they found a brown Nissan Pathfinder at the edge of the woods by the southbound lanes, Grossman said.

James’ wife, Denise, told The Press of Atlantic City her husband had operated a home repair business from Linwood and was known for being friendly and outgoing.

Denise said her husband was driving home after picking up his son from Paramus, according to the report. Justin graduated from Mainland Regional High School in 2009.

Police said a preliminary investigation found that Friedrich’s vehicle left the Parkway along the left shoulder. The vehicle then re-entered the roadway, and then rotated clockwise and left the roadway again.

It continued along a grassy area before hitting several trees with the drivers’ side. The vehicle then rolled onto the driver’s side and came to rest facing to the north, apparently hitting some trees, Grossman said.
