Pennsauken's Eric Reed Sentenced to Over Five Years For Illegal Gun Dealing

A Pennsauken man has been sentenced to five years and three months in prison for the illegal sale and possession of firearms, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced on Thursday.

Eric J. Reed, 45, was sentenced after previously pleading guilty to one count of dealing firearms without a license and one count of transferring a firearm to a previously convicted felon, Fishman said.

He was also sentenced to three years supervised release. He also plead guilty to other charges, and awaits sentencing, Fishman said.

Reed stood accused of purchasing 14 firearms, including five pistols, seven handguns and a pair of rifles, from gun shows in Pennsylvania and transferring them to his nephew, a previously convicted felon, between May and August of last year.

Reed’s nephew is Ammie Steward, a/k/a “Beav,” a/k/a “B,” 38, of Pennsauken. Steward preiously served time for manslaughter, Hoffman said.

Steward resold the firearms Reed provided to him, Fishman said. Reed admitted he purchased the firearms with a fraudulent Pennsylvania driver’s license, Fishman said. He sold them to a witness who was cooperating with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

He also admitted to obliterating the serial numbers on the guns with a power tool. Reed sold a number of the firearms with ammunition magazines, and seven guns were sold with high-capacity magazines, Fishman said.

Reed sold Steward at least one weapon with a box of ammunition, and on other occasions, he sold Steward a rifle with a bayonet, Fishman said.
