Police Nab 12 During DWI Enforcement Push

Police made four of those arrests during Labor Day weekend.

Township police arrested 12 motorists on the charge of driving while intoxicated during the recent "Over the Limit, Under Arrest" enforcement push.

Four of those arrests came over the Labor Day holiday weekend, Gloucester Township Police Lt. Brian McKendry said.

Officers working on the "Over the Limit, Under Arrest" details also issued 38 tickets for speeding and 83 for driving on a suspended license, among other violations, over the two-plus weeks.

The state Division of Highway Traffic Safety supplied the township police department with a $4,400 grant to fund DWI patrols during the enforcement push, which began Aug. 19 and ended Sept. 5. The grants were also awarded to 167 other police agencies in New Jersey.

Township police remind motorists to consider the following:

  • Don't risk it. If you plan to drive, don't drink.
  • Choose a sober designated driver before partying.
  • Take mass transit, a taxicab or ask a friend to drive you home if you didn't plan in advance.
  • Spend the night where the activity is being held.
