Police Recover Guns After Standoff With Man Who Barricaded Himself in Storage Unit

Police recovered five firearms, three rifles and two handguns following a standoff with an unidentified man who barricaded himself in a South Jersey Self Storage facility.

Gloucester Township Police recovered a number of firearms following a standoff with a man who barricaded himself in a storage unit.

Police recovered five firearms, three rifles and two handguns following a standoff with an unidentified man who barricaded himself in a South Jersey Self Storage facility.

Officers responded following a request from the Runnemede Police Department in an attempt to locate a subject who may have had a change in mental status.

Officers confirmed that the subject was at the facility and when they approached the subjects unit, they discovered that the male had barricaded himself inside of the 10' X 8' storage unit.

Officers immediately established a perimeter around the unit and placed a nearby business in a "Shelter-In-Place" for the safety of the workers while the incident progressed.

Contact was also made with family members who stated that the male may be in possession of several firearms. 

The Gloucester Township Special Response Team along with the Gloucester Township Crisis Negotiation Unit then arrived and established contact with the subject.

'Eventually, the subject peacefully surrendered to police after about one hour. He was transported to JFK Hospital in Cherry Hill for medical clearance.
