Report: Suspect Stoned When He Killed 5th-Grader

Max Drosi made a preliminary court appearance Tuesday in connection with the death of Samantha Nguyen-Ortanez, a Gloucester Township 11-year-old.

A stoned man’s quest for cheesesteaks. That’s what led to the death of Erial Elementary School fifth-grader , authorities said at the suspect’s preliminary court hearing Tuesday.

Max Drosi told police he was distracted by his GPS as he tried to navigate his way to Geno’s Steaks, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The newspaper reported that officers testified Drosi, of Miami, was stoned at the time of the accident.

Drosi is accused of losing control of his SUV in Philadelphia in March. Nguyen-Ortanez, an 11-year-old from Sicklerville, was pinned under the vehicle and killed instantly.

Drosi, 28, faces multiple charges, including homicide, homicide while driving under the influence and driving while intoxicated, among others. He’s in jail on $500,000 bail.
