Stolen Police Car Causes White Horse Pike Chase, Police Say

The incident started in Lindenwold around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

A Lindenwold woman who stole a police cruiser after being arrested was caught in a chase that went across multiple Camden County towns and ended in Cherry Hill early Wednesday morning, Lindenwold Police said.

Danyl Fontanez, 35, slipped her handcuffs after being arrested when officers responded to a domestic dispute call at about 1:10 a.m. on South Brighton Avenue, just off the White Horse Pike, and managed to force her way out of the back seat and into the front of a Lindenwold cruiser, police said.

She then took off down the White Horse Pike, making it about six miles into Cherry Hill, where she was caught with the assistance of Cherry Hill Police on Bayberry Court, a cul-de-sac just off Evesham Road, police said.

Fontanez was cut in a fight with officers who went to arrest her the second time, police said, and had to be treated at a hospital.

She was able to take the patrol car because the keys were in the ignition and the patrol car was running, police said, as is protocol during warm weather, to ensure the air conditioning can still run.

The cruiser wasn’t damaged in the chase, police said.
