Police: Citizen Tip Nets Drug, Weapon Charges

A 34-year-old man was charged in Gloucester and Winslow townships following his initial arrest at La Cascata Townhouses.

A Winslow Township man was charged last weekend with multiple drug offenses following his arrest at La Cascata Townhouses.

A subsequent joint investigation by officers with the Gloucester Township and Winslow Township police departments resulted in the recovery of a handgun and hollow-point bullets from the man's home in Winslow's Atco section.

Gloucester Township Police Ptl. Matthew DiCamillo was among several Operations Response Unit officers conducting a proactive patrol of the 200 block of La Cascata around midnight Oct. 29—the result of a concerned citizen's tip regarding what police labeled in a press release as "suspicious people and activity" in that area.

As DiCamillo approached a parked vehicle, he noticed an individual who had been standing nearby the vehicle scurried away, seemingly because he had spotted the police cruiser, Gloucester Township Police Capt. Anthony Minosse said.

DiCamillo reportedly smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and called in Cpl. Mark Pickard and K-9 Maximus to perform a narcotics search.

Several bags of marijuana, a "significant" number of prescription pills, a digital scale and cash were recovered from the vehicle as a result of the K-9 unit's search, according to police.

The vehicle's driver, identified by police as 34-year-old Warren T. Davis Jr., of Fenway Avenue, Winslow, was placed under arrest.

Gloucester Township Police charged Davis with two counts each of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession of CDS with intent to distribute, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and a single count of possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park, Minosse said.

Police continued their investigation following Davis' arrest at LaCascata, ultimately resulting in a search being conducted at Davis' Fenway Avenue home after Winslow police had been notified. That search resulted in the recovery of a .380-caliber handgun and .45-caliber hollow-point bullet cartridges, according to Minosse.

Davis was charged in Winslow with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He was lodged in Camden County Jail on $35,000 bail.
