Township Man Sentenced in 2007 Sex Crime

A Superior Court judge on Tuesday handed down a six-year sentence in the 5-year-old case.

A Gloucester Township man was sentenced on Tuesday to six years in state prison for sex crimes he committed against a young child more than five years ago.

Christopher Dickerson faced 10 years in prison following his Nov. 2, 2011, conviction.

In addition to the six-year sentence handed down by Superior Court Judge Gwendolyn Blue, Dickerson must register as a sex offender under Megan's Law.

Dickerson, who was 23 years old when he was convicted last November, was found guilty of second-degree sexual assault, third-degree endangering the welfare of a child and fourth-degree lewdness.

Dickerson was charged with inappropriately touching a child younger than 13 at her Gloucester Township home on Jan. 4, 2007. Dickerson and the victim’s family are acquaintances, authorities said.

Blue convicted Dickerson after a four-day bench trial—a trial decided by a judge rather than a jury.

On Tuesday, Dickerson told the judge he was innocent and would prove it, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

Dickerson must serve 85 percent of the six-year sentence, or slightly more than 61 months, before he will be eligible for parole.

Sentencing was initially scheduled for Feb. 3, but had been postponed on several occasions.
