Gloucester Township Tree Lighting Cermony Canceled as NWS Issues Winter Storm Warning

The fourth annual Gloucester Township Tree Lighting Ceremony has been postponed until next Sunday due to inclement weather, the Gloucester Township Police Department announced via Nixle Sunday afternoon.

The ceremony, originally scheduled for 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on Chews Landing Road at the Municipal Building complex Sunday night is now scheduled for next Sunday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m.

The announcement comes as the National Weather Service out of Mount Holly has issued a Winter Storm Warning until midnight throughout the region.

That snow is eventually expected to turn to sleet, followed by freezing rain and eventually plain rain as a warm front lifts the cold air late Sunday into Monday.

The transition is expected to take place around midnight. Accumulation is expected to total 5-10 inches of snow or sleet and there is expected to be a trace of ice accumulation.

Visibility is expected to be low, and slippery travel is expected to develop on untreated roadways, bridges and other elevated roadways.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected and strong winds are also possible, making travel very hazardous or impossible.

Travelers are warned to exercise extreme caution while driving during this time.
