The black GMC Jimmy was southbound on Route 42 when it veered off of the highway. The SUV struck a tree on the west side of Route 42, with the driver's-side door bearing the brunt of the crash, according to Jones.

The GMC's driver, identified by Jones as 50-year-old Philadelphia resident Jean Brown, had to be extricated from the SUV.

Brown was flown by state police medevac to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. Her injures are not believed to be life-threatening, Jones said.

The helicopter landed on Route 42, which was only closed to traffic for about 10 minutes.

Brown's passenger, identified as 26-year-old Philadelphia resident Brendale Thompson, was taken by ambulance to Kennedy University Hospital-Statford for treatment, Jones said.

A state trooper was about to pull over the GMC SUV after observing it being driven erratically when the crash occurred, Jones said.

The crash victims indicated they were trying to read directions when Brown lost control of the SUV.
