Wiltshire Road Man Accused of Assaulting Police Officers in Sicklerville

Police approached the Sicklerville man after allegedly observing him peering into vehicles parked in the driveway of a Brittany Woods residence.

A Sicklerville man allegedly assaulted several police officers, including one who stopped to question him after spotting him peering into parked cars, Monday night.

David A. Thompson, 26, of Wiltshire Road, is also accused of disarming the initial investigating officer of his pepper spray during a brief physical altercation.

The incident began at 8:47 p.m., according to Gloucester Township Police Lt. Edward Bryant, when Ptl. Eric Marconi spotted Thompson looking into cars parked in the driveway of a home in Brittany Woods, off Jarvis Road. Wiltshire Road is located within the Brittany Woods development.

The officer approached Thompson and attempted to arrest him after identifying him and learning the Sicklerville man had warrants for his arrest.

Thompson allegedly resisted, though, by punching and kicking Marconi, disarming the officer of his pepper spray with one of the blows and fleeing the area.

Thompson was arrested later Monday night after police spotted him on Brookstone Drive in nearby Cobblestone Farms development, where he allegedly resisted officers' attempts to take him into custody for a second time.

Thompson has been charged with aggravated assault on police, disarming a police officer and two counts of resisting arrest. He was lodged in Camden County Jail on $50,000 bail.

No police officers were injured during the incidents, Bryant said.
