Camden County Free Flu Shots Start Sept. 26

The annual program will have stops around the county through November.

The weather might still feel like summer, but Camden County’s free flu shot season starts in just a few weeks.

Sixteen sites are in the lineup for the 2013 program, including stops in Collingswood, Cherry Hill, Gloucester Township, Haddon Heights and Voorhees, with the program kicking off at the county’s annual Senior Health Fair on Sept. 26 at Cooper River Park.

“In order to keep your family healthy this flu season, we encourage you to take advantage of this beneficial service provided by the board,” said freeholder Carmen Rodriguez, liaison to the health department, in a statement. “We are hosting immunization sites at convenient locations across Camden County.”

Seniors, pregnant women and chronically ill people are considered the high priority groups, but officials noted flu shots are also recommended for people with weakened immune or cardiovascular systems, or with chronic metabolic diseases, renal dysfunction or blood disorders.

Children 9 years old and older must be accompanied by an adult; those under the age of nine are not included in the program, and should be seen by a pediatrician. If you or your children don’t have health insurance, call CamCare at 856-541-9811 or the Bellmawr Health Center at 856-931-2700 for help.
