Council Advances E-Ticketing, Sports Complex Surveillance Programs

The two measures were approved by the Township Council Monday night as part of its consent agenda.

The Township Council on Monday unanimously approved two resolutions that will result in eight police cars being outfitted with electronic ticketing devices and security cameras being installed at Marge Martin Sports Complex.

Both resolutions were approved as part of Council's consent agenda.

Police Chief W. Harry Earle supported the e-ticketing devices during Council's June 6 agenda session by indicating the system will save manpower hours in his department and in the municipal court.

The township will enter a shared-services agreement with several other Camden County municipalities, including Bellmawr, Pine Hill and Runnemede, to share in the $9,100 start-up cost.

Under the agreement, which could see more towns join, the township will pay a total of about $14,000 to get the e-ticketing program underway.

The security cameras for the Lakeland sports complex will cost $55,000. The surveillance program could result in some additional costs, according to Earle, for electrical work to be done on site by the Department of Public Works and for the purchase of monitors for the police station.
