Council Approves Purchases of Four Vehicles

It's the armored rescue vehicle that's been getting all the attention, but Gloucester Township Council approved several other vehicle purchases Monday night.

Township Council approved the purchase of four vehicles Monday night at a cost of nearly $200,000.

The vehicles are identified in three separate resolutions as an E-350 van for $23,236.51, a 2013 passenger van for $23,670 and two 3-yard dump trucks with plow-and-spreader packages for a total of $152,956.

The township is buying the two vans from Mall Chevrolet and the two dump trucks from Flemington Ford.

The vehicle purchases were approved as part of Council's consent agenda.

The vehicles are being purchased under state contract—a process which allows municipalities to avoid going out to bid for specific equipment and usually brings the lowest possible price.

The four vehicle purchases flew under the radar, as the public's interest as it relates to government spending has been focused squarely so far this year on the Police Department's pending acquisition of an armored rescue vehicle.

The lone bid for the armored rescue vehicle came in at $277,986 on Wednesday.

Good job council. Money well spent.......

The spending spree continues with "THE PEOPLE'S MONEY" The taxpayers over taxed, instead of returning the money to the people in property tax reduction, they spend UP to ZERO AGAIN. Return the money to the PEOPLE. Oh, and by the way a Passenger van ??
Dave's Stache February 15, 2013 at 01:24 PM
No bid, under the radar. That is the GT political hack way. No bid contracts, no show jobs, no clue hacks, no proof disabilities, no morals, no values and no respect. That is the GT political hack way with Dave Mayer leading the way.

Hell - as long as its not another Tank it has to be considered a wise purchase.
Stache's Minion February 16, 2013 at 01:05 AM
Oh great and powerful Stache. I pray at your alter. We put out no bid contracts to our friends without oversight or accountability. All that you do is perfect and you always have the best interests of our town. I will not question the way of the Stache. Neither will my grandchildren who will be paying off these purchases.

Big Daddy 1 February 20, 2013 at 01:34 PM
I get it. The dump trucks will be used to fix the roasds, right?
Charles February 20, 2013 at 01:59 PM
It seems that the vendors have State contracts for these vehicles; thus, their prices meet or do better than the generally available costs. Let's not get so wound up that we are unfair or inaccurate in our rants. I think the D-controlled government in GT gives off a fishy smell, too. That does not mean that every single thing they do is evil; it's only put through a "cash-back" system that makes it bad.

It was not under the radar, I caught it at the last meeting. Although I clearly remember 1 dump truck (bush truck - single axel) w/plow and 3 passenger vans w/gas conversion kits. I question why we need 3 passenger vans but I am not framiliar with what the township has already. The issue w/the tank is we already have access to the one the sheriff's dept has at lakeland, why buy another. Hey PATCH, you assume we have our priorities in wrong place. Please don't! Also, single bid for the tank not a surprize, let me guess, LENCO. They are the only company!!! Also, their web-site says will assist with getting Homeland Grants. Why are we not attempting HS Grant. I have not forgotten and will ask again and again and again till I get an answer.

I agree Charles, not everything is always bad. I didn't catch any fishy smell yet but my perception of Council so far is they are a bunch of fractured fairy god mothers waving a wand and granting wishes. Remember Rocky & Bullwinkle? UH-OH, I'm aging myself!!! :( Wishes that are satisfied with money that does not belong to them. Council is elected to run the business of the township, not grant wishes.

Sorry, Council assures you the roads they are responsible for are always GREAT!!!! The roads the County is responsible for are all the bad roads. Not Council's responsibility or worry!!!

Why?
Schu February 21, 2013 at 03:53 PM
We have a endless supply of money in GT. The way to keep the funds rolling is by raising taxes.
GTWatchdawg February 21, 2013 at 11:25 PM
Does anyone question what the township needs "passenger" vans for? Would that be POLITICAL "GOTV" (get out the vote) ? Think about it......... Your thoughts??
Sybil Evans February 22, 2013 at 12:01 AM
That’s ironic because I have seen a public vehicle used for a GOTV purpose since the former mayor Rau Hatton used the former police chief as her personal $165,000 a year chauffer. But then again that would be ok with GtWatchdog because Rau hatton was a Republican.
GTWatchdawg February 22, 2013 at 12:41 AM
Typical response..... instead of answering the question about the passenger van. It's the "blame game". Why not just blame George Bush.
Schu February 22, 2013 at 01:42 AM
The rich aren't paying their fair share.
Charles February 22, 2013 at 01:08 PM
How about the huge %age that pay NOTHING? They sure aren't paying ANY share!
Mayor Blackberry February 22, 2013 at 01:12 PM
It is also ironic the curent mayor used to use his chief of staff / pet assemblywoman as his personal chauffer.
Sybil Evans February 22, 2013 at 11:47 PM
Lets see Ray who started the blame game here? That would be you: "Would that be POLITICAL "GOTV" (get out the vote) ? Think about it......... Your thoughts??" Problem for you is you got a truthful answer and didn't expect it, It's a shame for you but the truth hurts. Why not blame Bush? Well he was not the Mayor of Gloucester Twp taking helicopter rides to Fort Dix and using the Police Chief as her personal Chauffeur for car rides to her lunch meetings with Realtor Linda Musser discussing her political aspirations to run for council with Rau-Hatton heading the ticket for mayor. That's way worse then any GOTV especially since the scenario I laid out happened yours, is a witch hunt that never happened.
