Council Calls Special Meeting Monday Night

Gloucester Township Council will hold a special session to vote on a bond resolution.

Township Council called a special meeting for tonight, May 21, at 6 p.m. to finalize a $1.985 million bond approval.

The resolution is the only item on the agenda.

The resolution, available by clicking on the PDF to the right, concerns a lease purchase agreement with the board of education and a shared services agreement the town and school have on energy savings.

Update, 11:55 p.m., May 21: Monday's meeting lasted less than five minutes, with Council quickly and unanimously approving the resolution to sell the bond and execute any remaining paperwork. The approval allows the project, a shared services agreement with the regional high-school district to install unspecified environmentally friendly equipment at the schools, to move forward.

Under the agreement, the town will purchase the equipment and the school district will lease it. The town will use those lease payments to pay down the bond note. At the end of the lease, the school district will own the equipment.

Correction: The update to this article erroneously indicated when published at 11:55 p.m. on May 21 that the township would be purchasing equipment to lease to the "regional K-8 school district." The lease purchase agreement is between the township and Black Horse Pike Regional School District. Patch regrets the error.
