Gentek's Council Replacement Likely Seated in February

The search for Michelle Gentek's replacement is officially underway.

Gloucester Township Democrats have officially begun their search for Michelle Gentek's replacement on Township Council.

Mayor David Mayer—the de facto leader of the Democratic Party in the township—announced Tuesday the party is interested in hearing from residents wishing to complete Gentek's term, which is to expire Dec. 31, 2013.

"We have many talented individuals in our township who are qualified to serve on Township Council,” Mayer said. “Therefore we are seeking someone who wants to serve our community and help us continue to make Gloucester Township a better place to live, work and start a business."

Interested individuals can submit their resumes by email at getinvolvedingt@gmail.com. The Democrats' selection committee will contact those it wishes to interview for the Council vacancy.

Township Solicitor David Carlamere, an active Democrat, indicated following Monday's Council work session that the position will likely be filled in February.

The Democrats have 15 days from Gentek's Jan. 4 oath of office to submit a list of up to three candidates to Council, which then has 15 days to make a decision on whether to accept one of the committee's selections, Carlamere said.

Council's first public-action meeting in February will be held Monday, Feb. 11. It's likely Gentek's replacement will be officially seated during that session.

Gentek was sworn in as the newest member of the Camden County Board of Chosen Freeholders last Friday, in Camden. Her last meeting as Gloucester Township councilwoman was Dec. 27.

"I personally believe giving back to society is a cornerstone of our great democracy, especially in Gloucester Township,” Mayer said at the end of Tuesday's statement announcing the search's commencement.

Oh please! The "search" was over when she won a seat as a Freeholder. Replacement parts for the machine are always in the pipeline waiting.

It's important to keep up the intrigue. Remember, it is better to look good than to feel good! Anyway, why would anyone suggest that this is anything but a fair and open process? Let me count the ways...

If anyone believes for one second that the replacement for the mayor's special girl was not sitting in the wings this whole time, you have been fooled. These Norcrsts never do anything that is not scripted, planned and beneficial to them. The same can be said of the sham process to create a patronage job in the GT schools for council VP Orlando Mercado. Six figure salary for someone who was unsuccessful at his previous post at Stockton College.
Corruption and more patronage. It's the Norcrat way. We are watching.

Look at the names involved in the local Norcrat party in Gloucester Township. The MUAs, BOEs, the municipal building, public works, boards and appointments. It is a who's who of Norcrats. This does not include those who are major financial contributors who have contracts with the town and BOEs.
Big Daddy 1 January 9, 2013 at 08:05 pm
Speaking of contracts, Remington & Vernick always seem to get the street engineering jobs throughout South Jersey. Is that why all our towns are still plagued with potholes? Maybe another firm would have an idea about actually fixing the potholes, not the bidding. It's only been 3 years since the winter storm was blamed.
Darren Gladden January 9, 2013 at 08:25 pm

There's nothing going on with contracts and contributions...remember, we now have Pay-2-Play and we have rooted out all the SuperPacs.
Big Daddy 1 January 10, 2013 at 01:34 am
Yep we do still have pay to play don't we.

Mercado? Dual public payroll job? Hmmm. Is this something that smacks of the HATCH Act? Gentek's replacement. Let's please please hope that it is not Bucceroni! He is as negative and crooked as the police officer he runs around with from Triton/Bellmawr area - doing a duo frame-up act on someone's child just because they think they can and getting away with it -- although thus far. You know. That would be the worst thing the township could do in replacing Mrs. Gentek. She exuded character, quality and class. Bucceroni on the other has no morals, lacks integrity and is nothing short of an old bloke! Besides, anyone who has anything, even in the slightest, to do with the School Boards don't need to be representing the constituency in this township since they are heavily responsible and cowardly knowledgeable about the tragedy at Triton.

And another thing. I am so tired of everyone blaming their idiocyncracies on someone named George Norcross! What exactly did he do? From what I read and from what I have been hearing, he's done what any one in his position of 'power' would do. Whatever he wants to do. He is the 'big boy' of politics in this area. Get over it! Everyone acts like he's the devil incarnate or something. If you can adjust your thinking and apply any statistics to his negatives, versus how far they outweigh his positives – advise me. I note… what's been going on throughout this area of South Jersey, his name has been synonymous with growth, even in the face of opposition. It's like 'waa...waa...waa' all the time. If you don't want to dance or play with him, then get your political platforms together, stand up and make a move! Stop pointing your finger. You only defeat yourselves because you increase the number of fingers pointing back, ala statistically your chances become 3 to 1 with the odds against you. Ya got to learn to play the game. You got to put your skirts on or pull your pants up! Stop bending over looking for dirt. Leave the man alone, he's got his platform, he's got his position, he's got his power. Get your own and stop the blot cot crying. Nothing gets accomplished like that. So far as I can tell, he's the king-maker in this township. Everyone else is acting like a bunch of queens. No checkmate to the game.

Seems like I remember a fellow named Romney who was beaten up mercilessly by the Dem's for being/doing these things. As usual, Dem's give a pass to their friends (and career-makers) but demonize everyone NOT in with them. Yes, King George has money and power (thanks to a very astute father), but that does NOT give him the right to run everyone else's lives!! Of course, when you use your money and power to buy influence, you wind up with many people who owe their well-being to you and will do your bidding. this bidding may be beneficial to you (and them), but NOT to the common folks, from whom more money is taken for the King and his cohorts.
telepathy January 10, 2013 at 04:22 am
Yes, Charles. But these tactics are a part of our history too right? It's been going on for eons. And like you said, with Romney? His people didn't play their game right. I have total respect for the New Boss of New Jersey, Governor Cristie. Why? He knows how to play the game. He's a winner. He's also a king-maker. He brings it... together for all parties and as a soloist. What i've noticed with the repubs here in this area? They don't like to share. That's their downfall. Stinginess and self absorbtion. Seems their fists are balled up so tight, if they punch someone, they'll only hurt themselves. When's the last time they did something really huge for the constituency in this township, in this area? Answer? Don't worry, I'll wait...
Big Daddy 1 January 10, 2013 at 06:32 pm
Some of us have gone on the record about Norcross bid rigging, Norcross buying elections and other acts. Problem is the people you are forced to cmplain to are Norcross puppets too. So we will continue to complain no matter who doesn't like it.

Hey, Telepathy, the Mafia could establish order in your neighborhood...are you willing to pay the costs? Can you deal with the organized crime?
Charles January 11, 2013 at 02:08 pm
We deal with "organized crime" every day. It's our current political system!

The most helpful and most effective person to sit on the Council for Gloucester Township was Former Councilwoman Crystal Evans. During her tenure on the Council she was trustworthy and respected by the majority of her constituents. She personally helped many GT Residents with their problems and was responsible for saving lives by influencing the Township to install traffic lights at dangerous intersections. It's too bad that she was not re-elected to another term on the Council. Despite whatever happened after term expired, she was still the best and most experienced person for the job. Many people have expressed their regrets that she chose not to serve on the Council again. I understand that unfair politics had a lot to do with her deciding not to serve on the Council again. Many GT Residents really miss her!

I agree CC. Now the meetings are a complete waste of time. Crystal Evans was the only one who gave a hoot about the people.
Paul J. DiBartolo March 15, 2013 at 11:41 am
>> ...install traffic lights at dangerous intersections.
That's old school. New school is installing red-light-cameras at existing traffic lights. More revenue and the out-of-state company operating them gets rich on the backs of the scofflaws of Blackwood and surrounding environs who refuse to come to a complete stop at the lights. We will eventually root out these ne'er-do-wells who run red lights and GT will once again become a wonderful place to...

Maybe if they spent less time signing onto Team Booker and more time doing the job they were electedRead More to, our roads would not be such a mess. This is what happens when you elect the Manchurian Mayer.
