Gloucester Twp. Council, Mayor Honor Timber Creek Marching Band

The school's wrestling team was also recognized during Monday's Council meeting.

Gloucester Township Council and Mayor David Mayer on Monday recognized the Timber Creek Regional High School marching band and wrestling team.

Roughly three to four dozen members of the marching band attended the meeting to pick up proclamations from Council and Mayer.

"I can tell you these people work hard. They work hard day in and day out. They work hard over the summer. It's just amazing the amount of work that each and every one of them put in," Council President Glen Bianchini said. "I'm proud to be able to honor them tonight."

The Marching Chargers won the Group 2-A title at the Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championships, in West Grove, PA, last October.

Council and the mayor also recognized Timber Creek band director Dan O'Neill.

"I will say that most all of my kids are pretty academically driven," O'Neill said. "We've got 50, 52 kids, and I think we have a 3.6 (grade-point average as a group), with quite a few 4.0 or above. ... I'm really proud of all of their accomplishments."

Timber Creek wrestling head coach Nick Cottone accepted proclamations on behalf of his 2011-12 wrestlers, none of whom attended the meeting Monday night. The Chargers won their fourth straight South Jersey Group 3 title this past winter, finishing 21-3 and as the Courier-Post's No. 1-ranked South Jersey team.

"Timber Creek in its short history has really done unbelievable things as a wrestling organization," Bianchini said.

Calling Timber Creek principal Mae Robinson back to the front of Council chambers after the wrestling team was first recognized, Mayer said, "It's Timber Creek Night."
