Michelle Winters to Take Office Monday

Michelle L. Winters is now just days away from officially becoming a member of Gloucester Township Council.

Unanimously selected by Council to complete Michelle Gentek's unexpired term at its Feb. 11 meeting, the 1985 Triton Regional High School graduate will take the oath of office at Council's Feb. 25 meeting.

“We had many qualified individuals in our township who applied to serve on council,” Mayor David Mayer said, “but Michelle stood out because of her community service and volunteerism within Gloucester Township and her commitment to improving the quality of life in our community." 

Gentek became a Camden County freeholder in early January following her election in November 2012, creating a vacancy on Gloucester Township Council.

Winters will complete the final 10-plus months of Gentek's term, which expires Dec. 31, 2013.

Winters, a registered nurse, is the manager of invasive cardiology at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, in Camden, where she is responsible for clinical and administrative operations. She received her bachelor's of science degree in nursing from Widener University and is a certified school nurse.

Mayer echoed sentiments about Winters expressed by Council members on Feb. 11 in a statement issued Wednesday.

Winters "has lived in the township for over 20 years, knows our residents’ concerns, and is knowledgeable about the challenges that face this township," Mayer said. "We look forward to having her as a member of our team, finding workable solutions for a better Gloucester Township.”

Winters has been Gloucester Township Hockey Alliance president for two years and booster club secretary for three years. She was Triton field hockey's booster club vice president for two years, and is also a first aid instructor for the Blackwood Kiwanis Little League coaches and a participant in the Light the Night and Relay for Life events in the township.

Winters was among four individuals recommended to Council by Gloucester Township Democrat Committee to complete Gentek's term.

Winters and her husband, Robert, have two children—Sara, 19, and Eric, 17.
