New Voter Primary Registration Deadline Today

The office of the Camden County Superintendent of Elections will be open late tonight to accommodate last-minute registrations.

If you were waiting for the last minute to register to vote for the primary election, you’ve lucked out.

With today the deadline for new voters to register and still get a chance to participate in the June 7 primary, there are extended hours to register to vote at the Pennsauken office of the Camden County Superintendent of Elections, which will be open till 9 p.m.

The office is located at 7150 Westfield Ave. Suite C.

Voters who are already registered with a party cannot change their party ahead of the election–the deadline to switch parties was last month–but unaffiliated voters can declare at the polls on primary day and vote on either the Democratic or Republican side.

This year’s primary features contested Democratic and Republican races at the county level.

Running for a pair of nominations for the Camden County Board of Chosen Freeholders on the Republican side are Joshua Rocks, Eugene E.T. Lawrence, Helen Hart-Magobet and Fernando Powers.

Lawrence and Powers live in Gloucester Township. Rocks is from Haddon Township and Hart-Magobet from Winslow Township.

On the Democratic side, incumbents Louis Cappelli Jr., of Collingswood, and Scot McCray, of Camden, are opposed by two Gloucester Township residents—Amy LaConte-Smith and Thomas J. Stearns Jr.

Cappelli currently is freeholder director. McCray was appointed to the freeholder board earlier this year to fulfill Riletta Cream's unexpired term.

The township Democratic and Republican primaries are uncontested, with four on each side in place for their party's four slots on the November ballot.
