Rowan President to Receive $175,000 Raise

The Higher Education Restructuring Act is resulting in a pay increase for the head of Rowan University.

Rowan University President Ali Houshmand will receive a raise of $175,000, nj.com reports.

He will now make $550,000, according to the report.His annual salary was $375,000.

The University’s Board of Trustees approved the raise following a closed session hearing on Wednesday, according to the report.

Rowan University was designated a research university on July 1, when the Higher Education Restructuring Act took effect.

Rowan acquired the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey’s (UMDNJ) School of Osteopathic Medicine, while the rest of UMDNJ’s schools became part of Rutgers University.

A member of the Board of Trustees told nj.com the university wanted their president’s salary to be comparable to that of presidents at other research schools.

Houshmand will officially become Rowan’s seventh president on Sept. 20, according to the report. He’s been serving as interim president since Donald Farrish resigned from the position in 2011, but the “interim” tag was dropped from his title in June of last year.
