Sports Complex Security Cameras to Cost $55K+

The surveillance system will help prevent costly thefts, officials say.

The Township Council will vote Monday night on a resolution to authorize a $55,000 payment to a security company for the purchase and installation of surveillance video equipment at the Marge Martin Sports Complex at Lakeland.

The Woodbury Turnersville Road sports complex was the scene of eight known burglary and theft incidents in 2010, Gloucester Township Police Chief W. Harry Earle told Council during last Monday's agenda meeting.

Philadelphia-based Omega Computers & Security won the contract with its low bid.

The township received three bids for the security project on May 11.

Omega's $55,000 bid bested Main Access System Inc.'s by nearly $3,000 and Integrated System & Services by nearly $200,000. Earle noted that work proposed under Integrated System & Services' $249,812 bid went well beyond the bid specifications.

There could be some "minimal" add-on costs associated with the project, according to Earle, including electrical work at the site by Department of Public Works employees and installation of monitors at the police station.

Marge Martin Sports Complex is also patrolled by Camden County Park Police.
