Township to Award Bid for Traffic Signals at Redbud and Cross Keys

One official described the intersection as "dangerous" during a Township Council workshop.

Gloucester Township will move forward with a plan to make Redbud Drive and Berlin-Cross Keys Road a traffic signal-controlled intersection.

The Township Council is expected to vote Monday night on a resolution that would award a $231,064.70 contract to Techna-Pro Electric LLC, of Mount Laurel, to install traffic signals at the intersection, which is located in the township's Sicklerville section.

The move comes just about two months after the speed limit along Berlin-Cross Keys Road was reduced from 50 mph to 45 mph in an effort to help improve traffic safety. When discussing the speed-limit reduction, officials repeatedly noted an increase in commercial development along the roadway.

Council members are hopeful the traffic signal at Redbud Drive, which is known as Wilby Road on the Winslow Township side of Berlin-Cross Keys Road, will be operational sometime in late July or August.

"It is dangerous," Councilwoman Michelle Gentek said of the intersection.

Techna-Pro submitted the low bid for the job—coming in nearly $70,000 below engineering consultant John Cantwell's estimate—which will be paid for exclusively by Gloucester Township.

Despite sharing the roadway with Winslow Township, Gloucester Township maintains all traffic signals along Berlin-Cross Keys Road—the middle of which serves as the border between the two townships.
