White Horse Road Bridge to Remain Closed for 6-8 Weeks

The bridge is currently undergoing repairs.

The White Horse Road Bridge over the Delaware River Port Authority’s PATCO tracks in Lindenwold is expected to reopen in the next six to eight weeks, the Camden County Freeholder Board announced on Tuesday.

It is currently undergoing repairs designed to stabilize the span while the design for a full replacement continues over the next year.

“This vital span will soon be safely reopened to the motoring public while a new bridge is being designed by our engineers," Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works, said. "Traffic will be limited on the span to cars only and the lanes will be constricted but the bridge will be opened.”

Once the span is reopened traffic will be limited to passenger vehicles (cars, small trucks) and emergency vehicles such as ambulances. A heavy truck detour will remain in place.

County engineers are working with KSE Engineers to design and construct a new span.

Additionally, all government and transit agencies involved in replacing the 50-year-old structure are working to expedite the process for the motoring public including the Delaware River Port Authority and NJ Transit.

While the support system is constructed on site the Camden County Department of Public Works urges the more than 24,000 drivers a day who normally cross the bridge to seek alternate routes for their commutes.

A suggested detour plan is posted at www.camdencounty.com.

“Please be mindful of this bridge closure and allow yourself extra time to reach your destination if your commute includes this area,” Leonard said. “The department is trying to make this transition as painless as possible for the public while we work to fully remediate this issue.”
