Gloucester Twp. BOE President Hopes to Name New Superintendent Soon

Linda Gilch says the Gloucester Township Public Schools board is working with "due diligence" to reach a decision.

While the search for its next superintendent continues, parents, teachers and students of the (GTPS) district should know they may not have to wait much longer to find out who the board chooses.

Not if board president Linda Gilch has anything to do with it.

Gilch says the board never indicated it planned to name a candidate by its June 25 meeting, and there has been no sort of unanticipated delay in the selection process.

Yet, she offered that the board is working with “due diligence” to select someone to take over for Superintendent Thomas Seddon. Seddon’s retirement will take effect Sept. 1.

“We are making sure we have the best candidate,” Gilch said last week.

There is no timeline for which a new superintendent will be selected, according to Gilch, who noted she is hopeful a decision will be reached soon. She did not want to comment on how many candidates are currently under consideration for the position.

“Mr. Seddon was a great superintendent. It is hard to fill his shoes,” Gilch said.

Gilch says the board is working the process with the students' best interests in mind. She went on to say that although it has been a tiring process, all board members are in agreement as to what they want from their next superintendent.

Gilch spoke with Patch a few days after last Monday night’s board meeting, in which the board retired into a closed session to deliberate on the candidates for superintendent. After discussing the selection late into the night, the board ended without coming to a decision.
