Chargers Advance to Atkinson Final

The Timber Creek girls' basketball team will face Glassboro in the James G. Atkinson Memorial championship game.

The backcourt duo of sophomore Brittany Martin and junior Amanda Riiff combined to score 38 points to lead the Timber Creek Regional High School girls’ basketball team to a 69-36 win over Paulsboro in the opening round of the 11th annual James G. Atkinson Memorial Basketball Classic.

Martin pumped in a game-high 20 points, while Riiff added 18 as the Chargers advanced to take on Glassboro in the championship game of the four-team tournament, which is played at Gloucester County College. That contest is set for today at 6 p.m.

Timber Creek jumped out to a 22-11 first-quarter lead an never looked back, improving to 2-2 on the young season. Ten different Chargers scored, with Riiff and Martin each connecting on a pair of three-pointers. Riiff also had seven steals, while Desiree Furbert added seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.
